Andrew Ritchie is....
a stage director, theatre maker, and teacher from Edmonton, Alberta who has performed and directed across Canada. His work has ranged from new Canadian plays, classical text, movement, mask, clown, bouffon, improv, and immersive theatre. He strives to explore audience-performer relationship and heightening the 'aliveness' of theatre whether he is working in a black box theatre or non-traditional venue. He has directed with the Citadel Theatre, Theatre Network, Grant MacEwan University, Nextfest, Promise Productions, Tiny Bear Jaws and assistant directed with Globe Theatre, Citadel Theatre, Northern Light Theatre, Workshop West Playwright’s Theatre, Theatre Yes, and Theatre@York.
He is artistic director of You Are Here Theatre which is dedicated to risky, political Canadian work. He is co-founder and artistic director of Thou Art Here Theatre, Alberta's alternative Shakespeare company, through which he has directed and performed in over a dozen productions. He is co-founder of the Common Ground Arts Society's Found Festival, Edmonton's only multi-disciplinary found space arts event and was festival director from 2014-2015. He was an instructor at the Citadel's Foote Theatre School from 2011-2017. He has taught acting, improv, Shakespeare, and directing for children/youth and has taught at University of Regina, York University & Concordia University of Edmonton. He has performed improv across North America is an alumnus of Rapid Fire Theatre.
He has a Master of Fine Arts in Directing & Creation from York University, a Bachelor of Arts in Drama with Distinction from the University of Alberta and is a graduate of the Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program. Currently Andrew is based in Regina, Saskatchewan and is the Theatre School Director and Sandbox Series Coordinator for Globe Theatre.
